We provide excellent sales, marketing, and customer support for all of our customers throughout the eight counties we serve in Pennsylvania. In 2011 the Reading and Northern Railroad was named “Regional Railroad of the year” for our development of a new export coal facility for Pennsylvania Anthracite. In 2010 we were awarded the “Shortline Marketing Award” for our development of a new Marcellus Shale transload facility at our old Pittston Yard near Scranton PA.
Our railroad is 320 miles long and we handle freight to and from all points in the United States as well as import/export traffic. We connect to both Norfolk Southern and Canadian Pacific Class I railroads. While still known as “The Road of Anthracite” for our historic roots in the anthracite coal region, we actually have a broad and diverse traffic base. Primary materials handled by RBMN include Coal, Plastics, Wine, Lumber, Paper, Grains, Chemicals, and Sand.
We own and maintain approximately 1000 rail cars and 22 locomotives. Our car shop and engine house are on site for most routine maintenance needs. Our certified weigh in motion scale is available to update car records with lading weights.
Our customer service department is modern and computerized with state of the art systems for managing inbound and outbound car movements.
We can assist with Industrial Development site searches as well as rail infrastructure design and construction planning.
We serve or access numerous industrial parks with available site locations. We also serve several sites suitable for transloading material from rail to truck.
Please contact Dan Gilchrist with any industrial development questions.
How To Do Business With The RBMN
1) We will first need to gather some basic information about the material to move, the shipper and also the receiver. (What is the product, volume, are rail sidings in place and operable, where is the origin/destinations, etc.) Click here for a Potential Customer Questionnaire to help gather the necessary information. After completion, just email or fax it back to us.
2) If facilities are not in place, we can help locate suitable sites to build or develop a transloading option. We stand ready to assist you in getting the necessary infrastructure in place in order to take advantage of the economics of rail.
3) We will contact the other involved railroads to determine the rates, routes, etc. The necessary rate might be as simple as a one-
4) Just give us a call with any questions to get started.
