At the Reading and Northern Railroad we provide excellent sales, marketing, and customer support for all of our customers throughout the nine counties we serve in Pennsylvania.

We are pleased to announce that Reading and Northern is the winner of the 2016 American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) Marketing Award.  This is the third time we have won this prestigious award, having previously won it in 2010, and 2014.

The award recognizes our accomplishment in rapidly reacting to a business opportunity by establishing a railroad operated transload and storage warehouse in Old Forge, PA.  This new facility was up and running in record time to meet our customer’s stringent requirements.

In addition to the ASLRRA Marketing Award, Reading and Northern was also recognized in 2015 when we were named Regional Railroad of the Year by Railway Age Magazine.  This was the third time we have won this prestigious award and we are the only railroad ever to have achieved this recognition three times.

All of these awards are in recognition of our strong and effective development efforts in attracting new business and customers to the Reading and Northern Railroad.

Our railroad is 400 miles long and we handle freight to and from all points in the United States as well as import/export traffic. We connect to both Norfolk Southern and Canadian Pacific Class I railroads. While still known as “The Road of Anthracite” for our historic roots in the anthracite coal region, we actually have a broad and diverse traffic base. Primary materials handled by RBMN include Anthracite Coal, Forest Products, Plastics, Food & Agriculture Products, Chemicals & Minerals, and Metals & Construction Products.

We own and maintain over 1200 rail cars and 34 locomotives. Our car shop and engine house are on site for most routine maintenance needs, and our certified weigh in motion scale is available to update car records with accurate weights. Our customer service department is modern and equipped with state of the art systems for managing inbound and outbound car movements.

We can assist with Industrial Development site searches as well as rail infrastructure design and construction planning. We serve or access numerous industrial parks with available site locations (see our list of available Industrial Development Sites under the “Business Development” section of the web site) and can provide service to other sites suitable for transloading materials between rail and truck.  Reading and Northern owns and operates three transload and warehouse operations in Cressona, Mountain Top and Old Forge PA.  We also serve two major warehousing and distribution operations based out of Scranton and Hazleton, PA.

Please contact Dan Gilchrist, Dennis Shaffer or Rian Nemeroff with any business development questions or opportunities.
