At the Reading and Northern Railroad we provide excellent sales, marketing, and customer support for all of our current and prospective customers throughout the nine counties we serve in Pennsylvania. We are also proud to be nationally recognized for our accomplishments in attracting new customers and new business to our railroad.
The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) awarded the Reading and Northern Railroad their Marketing Award in April of 2018 at their national convention for the fourth time since 2010! In addition, the Reading and Northern has been recognized as the Regional Railroad of the Year by Railway Age Magazine three times now….the only three time winner of this prestigious award.
These awards are presented in recognition of our strong and effective development efforts in attracting new business and new customers to the Reading and Northern Railroad. We can assist with Industrial Development site searches, as well as rail infrastructure design and construction planning. We serve or access numerous industrial parks with available site locations (see our list of available Industrial Development Sites under the “Business Development” section of the web site) and can provide service to other sites suitable for transloading materials between rail and truck. Reading and Northern owns and operates transload and warehouse operations in Cressona, Mountain Top and Old Forge PA. We also serve major warehousing and distribution operations based out of Scranton and Hazleton PA.
Our railroad is 400 miles long and we handle freight to and from all points in North America as well as imports and exports around the world. We connect to both Norfolk Southern and Canadian Pacific Class 1 railroads. While still known as “The Road of Anthracite” for our historic roots in the anthracite coal region, we actually have a broad and diverse traffic base. Primary materials handled by RBMN include Anthracite Coal, Forest Products such as Pulp, Paper and Wood, Plastics, Food & Agriculture Products, Chemicals & Minerals, and Metals & Construction Products.
We own and maintain over 1200 rail cars and 41 locomotives. Our car shop and engine house are on site for most routine maintenance needs, and our certified weigh in motion scale is available to update car records with accurate weights. Our Customer Service department is modern and equipped with state of the art systems for managing inbound and outbound car movements.
We are positioned well to continue taking good care of our customers to help them be successful and also working aggressively to help new customers locate on the Reading and Northern to take advantage of the many benefits of being located on the RBMN…..such as
- Scheduled Railroad
- Two Class I Connections
- Extra Daily Switching Availability
